Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Between twelve and twenty-four Minnesota artists--including animators, musicians, and poets--will present their work to an audience of arts leaders and peers. Motionpoems will track the number of Minnesota artists involved and survey them after the festival to determine the event's impact on their careers. We will also solicit their ideas for expanding the festival's impact on artists in future years. 2: More than 600 Minnesotans will attend the festival in person. An additional 10,000 people from around the world will view festival artworks online. Motionpoems will track the number of Minnesotans visiting the festival and survey them to determine the event's impact on their appreciation and understanding of Minnesota artists.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Local filmmakers, whose freelance work often lands them in commercial jobs for corporate clients, often have little opportunity to make their own creative work. On the other hand, poets have few tools or opportunities to generate multimedia works. Our annual season and festival have the outcome of mixing these two artistic communities together and presenting their work to new audiences. The poetry film is a hybrid genre unto itself, one that Motionpoems has helped to pioneer. Our annual season and festival have the outcome of adding this new genre to the festival culture in the Twin Cities. By hosting this festival, we add to the cultural vocabularies of regional audiences. We had fewer people than projected, but broadening the audience for poetry is a mission that extends beyond the physical festival. New films premiering at the festival are released monthly at motionpoems.com, where bonus material deepens the conversation about the work, and on social networks, where our projects are shared and discussed in a variety of contexts. Our goal of reaching 10,000 more online was reached and exceeded this year.
