Minnesota Festival Support
ACHF Cultural Heritage
The variety and number of Minnesota artists that are presented through festivals increases. Minnesota festivals have greater financial stability and serve broader audiences. The number of Minnesotans who experience the arts through festivals increases. We will use surveys, participation counts, and verbal contact to assess the backgrounds of the artists.
Visual art including painting, handmade crafts, verbal, and folk artists were featured. This year, more than any other year, folk artists were more visible. There were numerous folk artists from visual, audio, playwright, and non-decorative disciplines. A survey found that 64% of our artists had no formal training in any artistic style; rather, they were self-taught. In previous years, our numbers were around 50%. We tried to incorporate all aspects of various arts into one event. We concentrated some of our efforts to offer traditional art experiences with native dance, song, and visual art. 2: Without this grant, Red Hot Arts would not have happened this year. Funding has been so tight in the last two years. Red Hot Art was able to garner additional resources after the Minnesota State Arts Board grant was secured. Also, because of the grant, more artists wished to attend, thus increasing the overall participation. The grant did not specifically assist us in reaching other target groups. However, with this grant we were able to secure more traditional artists and allow them to show their work. The amount of artists and participants who live at or below the poverty line increased. From surveys from both groups, we found that we reached out to a larger low-income group than before.
