1. To increase awareness of tribal history and cultures among the public and especially today's youth. 2. To counteract stereotypes of Pow-Wows and the Native American culture and to instead portray the event as a vibrant and complex celebration of Native American culture. 3. To invite surrounding communities to the event and encourage all area youth and their parents/caretakers to an afternoon of drug and alcohol free entertainment. 4. To demonstrate the beauty of design and dance of the Ojibwe culture to all community members attending the Pow-Wow.1. During the welcome and prior to special dance events being announced, the Master of Ceremonies will ask that all members of the audience please stop by the registration table to complete a survey asking the following questions; a) Have you ever been to a Pow-Wow? b) Are you from the White Earth Reservation? If no, where do you live? c) Have you any prior knowledge of Ojibwe traditions or culture? D) What new things do you hope to learn? E) How can the Boys and Girls Clubs of the White Earth Reservation do a better job of promoting Ojibwe culture? F) Would you return to another Pow-Wow?
One-Hundred and seventeen surveys were completed. Most individuals had been to a Pow Wow and for 20 individuals it was a new experience. Of the 117 surveys, 85 people listed the White Earth Reservation as their home and the remaining individuals were from
