Irish Music and Musicians in the Twin Cities Community (1950-1990)
To document in 13 oral history interviews the history of Celtic Junction Arts Center.
This project created sound recordings and transcriptions of 13 oral history interviews. In addition, over 300 photographs and other audio recordings documenting local history were also collected as a result of this project. Metadata for all items has been created and stored in the McKiernan Library and all items are in the process of being added to the McKiernan Library Collection where they will be preserved up to archival standards. Copies of interview audio and copies of the transcripts are being made publicly available within the McKiernan Library itself and digital copies of both audio and transcripts will be made available online through the digital collection on the library's website.
This oral history collection is the most comprehensive document of the development of the Twin Cities' unique and vibrant Irish music scene created to date. The excitement generated by this project demonstrates strong community support for documenting the development of the local scene. The current strength of Irish music locally and its continuing survival and growth in Ireland and around the world assures that there will be an audience for this collection for years to come.
