I believe my project has many benefits to the local community and beyond. First of all, anytime artists reach out to collaborate with each other (such as the Little Knife Sanctuary Residency with Patricia Canelake and Frank Sander)? a?new community springs up, expands, and benefits those in the immediate area. The subject of this work provides a new perspective in paying homage to the ships of the Great Lakes, and has a broad reaching impact to the entire Great Lakes region In addition, by making a short film on the process of printing, provides others with the opportunity to expand their printmaking skills. Sharing the completed work by engaging the ? community in an opening reception to see the art provides an invitation? to people who might not otherwise be involved in viewing fine art on a regular basis.? Finally, having this project showcased on MPR's podcast ?Art Hounds? furnishes the chance for a broader audience to know the region, the art of printmaking, and the artist. GOAL STATEMENT MEASURABLE OUTCOME Collaboration with regional artists. Although I?agree that being an artist is a great responsibility, I consider it my greatest privilege.? Making a series of prints exalting the great ships of Lake Superior will be such a fantastic honor.? To be able to execute these prints in the studio of one of my friends and mentors is beyond thrilling.? Rest assured there is no way I'm going to drop the ball on this project. That said, I have successfully completed several highly competitive residencies such as The Vermont Studio Center, MacDowell, and The Fine Arts Work Center, where I spent focused amounts of time producing successful bodies of work. I thrive in an environment where I can concentrate all my efforts toward a goal. This opportunity will be no exception.
