In addition to being a cohort member at Grand Marias Art Colony, I am also an instructor for them. I have proposed teaching a ceramic surface decoration class and hope that the more I'm able to hone my skills and process through the help of these grant funds that I am able to then show students how they can use these techniques in their own work. I have also noticed that there is a strong interest in botanical related classes and art work in this area. ; My goal is to complete at least 20 different useable screen prints of at least 10 different plant specimens. Many plant specimens will not make for successful and usable screen prints, so the freedom of experimentation will be useful in accomplishing my goal of 20 useable screen prints. With these 20 useable screen prints I would then create a full collection of work. I am an experienced ceramicist having studied the medium in college, and have taken numerous online classes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic with nationally and internationally know ceramicists to further increase my skills, knowledge, and understanding of ceramic materials and techniques. I have the utmost confidence that I am able to complete this project as it is within my skillset, aligns with my artistic vision, and is doable for me within the timeline that I have outlined above. This project has been one that I have been contemplating often for the past 2 years and have been slowly figuring out how to make it come to life. I believe the main component that has held me back has been the lack of finances to have the freedom to explore, experiment, and do research to complete this project. Therefore, having the funds to support me in this endeavor will be significant for me. ; 1) That I have successfully made at least 20 different usable screen prints to utilize in my decoration process. 2) That I am successfully utilizing my screen prints in my ceramic decoration process. 3) That I am confident enough in this process to teach a class on ceramic screen prints and surface decoration. 4) That my work is selling at in person shows.
