Objective 1: Reduce light setup and strike time 20%. The two LED moving head lights will replace as many as eighteen fixed fixtures, so we hope to save two hours of initial hanging. When focusing the fixtures, if we do not use the other eighteen, this should save at least four hours of time. Also, once set and recorded in the cue functions, these settings are reusable each year with the push of a button. Adjustments can be made easily without the use of a boom truck. This feature will also be a great benefit as the Light Technician resets for other events. Objective 2: Adjust quickly to at least three music groups' lighting requirements with 30-minute turn around at Loose Gravel Music Festival. Objective 3: Increase satisfaction with lighting plot and control. Objective 1: Light Technician and team will understand operation of the instrument, its capabilities and limitations, install and program fixtures to operate as required, operate fixture controls to adjust vertical and horizontal rotation, color, zoom and transition speed, use the fixture as a tool to paint and augment emotion and intensity on stage with the Director's vision for the production, and light at least nine different areas using two rather than eighteen fixtures. Light Technician will be able to adjust light cues in response to Director requests in under five minutes per cue. Objective 2: We will review anecdotal reports from the music groups about their actions and satisfaction. Objective 3: We will review anecdotal responses by Director, Lighting Tech, cast and crew for their observations on the change in the lighting of selected scenes.
The new lights were a real time saver after the initial adjustment. The moving head fixtures were easily adjusted from the console meaning no boom truck or safety harness clipped to the truss. I was so impressed with how easily I could adjust them and use them for different scenes in different places and area of coverage. There is also the dramatic effect that I can create by moving a light while it is on, drawing the audience's attention from one scene to the next. Visiting musicians were all very complimentary of our setup. The potential for these lights is even bigger than we have been able to learn this year.
