This funding will help me achieve my goal by: - Providing funding which will enable me to create new work - Provide funding which supports an educational opportunity - Supporting time spent working on art - Learning and mastering new skills - Learn Couture Sewing techniques My ability to excite this project can be seen through the following examples: - I have demonstrated commitment and follow through in regards to a previously received ARAC grant project (2016). - I have made several past commitments to attend art shows and art events that have proved successful (see resume for details). - I have demonstrated my commitment to furthering my career as a working artist through my record of establishing and maintaining a professional website, continuing to consistently promote myself and my work through social media and within the community through local events, and by participating as a vendor in art shows. - I am highly committed to furthering my sewing knowledge and expertise by studying with established and highly regarded artist and professionals and learning new skills and techniques. Measurements for success in my project can be seen below: - Learn couture hand sewing techniques - Learn couture sewing construction methods as applied to the 'Classic French Jacket' - Construct a 'Classic French Jacket', 'A Boat Neck Top', 'A Cocktail Dress' , A Couture Skirt' - Challenge me to explore technically advanced sewing techniques that I have not yet had the opportunity to learn - Allow me the opportunity to explore new techniques and build upon my previously established sewing skills - Encourage creative exploration and development - Provide me with new skills and expertise that I can apply when creating future work - Enrich my future artwork with new elements, dimension, and direction - Applying these learned skills to my own original designs
Through taking the online courses and studying the couture sewing techniques I was fully able to meet the artistic goals outlined in my proposal. I learned couture sewing and construction techniques while creating four couture pieces of my own. These activities challenged me while also advancing my sewing skills. They have given me a new level of sewing expertise that I can apply to my future handwoven pieces that will greatly enrich and elevate the piece as an extremely well made handcrafted work.
