This funding will enable me to publish a 140-page e-book by: -Paying an editor to do the final proofreading of my already written and highly edited 140-pages. -Paying a book designer to format my final edited 140-pages and book cover into a PDF that can be uploaded to Amazon KDP. -Engage with my mentor, who will guide me through the process of uploading and publishing my completed e-book to Amazon KDP. -Releasing my book to the public on 8/20/20. This funding will also help free me up to focus on this artistic project entirely. During the time it will take to complete this project, the grant funding will help cover my living expenses. I am transitioning my creativity coaching over to a completely virtual model using applications like Zoom to conduct my coaching sessions, and this funding will help me weather this transition period. Plus, this grant will enable me to make a scalable product (the book) that could generate income into the future to help sustain my art career. I have experience in every step of creating and publishing books, stationery, and art prints, note cards, and posters. I created the art for, wrote, and designed in collaboration with a professional designer, The Book of Cranes, published by Pomegranate. My work has engendered the trust of Claire Kirch, Correspondent, Publishers Weekly, and she is now an enthusiastic supporter of the project. As stated in his letter of confirmation, the author Sumner Matteson will guide me through the process of publishing my e-book on Amazon KDP, as he did for his book "Afield." Of my stories, he's said: "they could save lives!" In addition to having the 140-pages edited many times, I've also made a front and back cover, written a book description, and prefilled out the questions Amazon KDP asks about search keywords and target audience. Incase my proofreader and book designer cannot follow through, there are many professionals available for my budget on freelancing websites like Fiverr.com.I will know this project has been a success when I have my published e-book downloaded onto my e-reader tablet. Measurable milestones of achievement for this project include: -Receiving the final edit of the text from the proofreader. -Receiving the formatted version of the book from the graphic designer ready to be sent to Amazon KDP. -Completing the Amazon KDP online self-publishing process, with the guidance of my mentor. I outlined a list of measurable milestones for the self-publishing process in my timetable for completing this project below. -And finally, downloading a copy of the e-book onto my e-reader tablet from the Amazon Kindle App by 8/20/20. -Then hosting a one hour live reading of my book on Facebook Live, for which I expect to get 200 viewers. This will take place within two weeks of publishing my book.
My work with the mentor, proofreader/editor, and book designer has gone very well. I am overjoyed with the results. My 300-page book is complete with front and back cover design. I have even had the opportunity to start collecting promo materials and building a strategy for my marketing campaign. I received the final formatted version of the book from the graphic designer in a MOBI file, which allows me to open it on my e-reader, tablet, smartphone, and computer. Save for actually publishing the e-book I have completed the online self-publishing process with the guidance of my mentor. I will now be publishing the book in the new year so I can be eligible for awards which will help me get the book out to a larger audience and better achieve my mission in writing the book in the first place.
