$5,982,000 the first year and $7,000,000 the second year are for statewide historic and cultural grants to local, county, regional, or other historical or cultural organizations or for activities to preserve significant historic and cultural resources. Money must be distributed through a competitive grant process. The Minnesota Historical Society must administer the money using established grant mechanisms, with assistance from the advisory committee created under Laws 2009, chapter 172, article 4, section 2, subdivision 4, paragraph (b), item (ii).

Short Term:
We fulfilled the short team impact, and have completed the exhibition treatment. We also have have two critical reviews completed, positioning us for the next step to request funding.
An additional short term achievement was a new relationship with Juxtaposition Arts (JXTA). We explored many kinds of innovators during the development of the exhibition treatment, and decided to feature some groups or organizations as innovators. One organization we decided to feature was JXTA. We met with leadership from JXTA and though this process, several potential connections we made - an unexpected but truly beneficial outcome.
Intermediate Term:
The Bakken Museum hired a new CEO, Alissa Light, during the project's development. Alissa is bringing her considerable experience in individual fundraising to the museum and this project. We are currently building a "mini-campaign" to raise the funds that will be needed in addition to a grant request that we expect to launch in early 2023. This is an exciting as it is exactly how we hoped we would utilize the exhibit treatment. Based on how well that process goes, we can then determine the timing for our next grant request.
An additional intermediate goal we have identified is to work with a graphic designer to develop some concept renderings of the space. This is activity we anticipate taking place in spring, 2023. We are excited to potentially work with JXTA for this intermediate step before fabrication and installation.
Long Term:
These indicators are not able to be acted on until the work of the exhibition is complete. Our initial hope was to have the exhibit installed by 2023, but we are learning that the fundraising may take more time. We are looking to be flexible and responsive to how that process goes, and at the same time working to push the project forward. We initially stated end of 2023 for completion, and it may be summer 2024. This time also allows us to perform minor maintenance work on the space the exhibit will occupy prior to installation.
