County Fair Legacy Project
We intend to hire internationally renowned potter, Jim Ulmer, to demonstrate and explain the historic nature and science of creating usable ceramics and glazes. We intend to hire Andrew Osten, a local steam engine tractor owner to bring his tractor to the fair for steam engine demonstrations. We intend to hire Jody Marquardt, a locally known, publicized metal worker (blacksmith) who creates historical items out of metal.
Pottery- Since the demonstration will be held outside, making spectator measurement difficult, we will offer a desirable item to be raffled off via a drawing. For 1/2 hour, we will keep a general tally as to how many people are entering the raffle that stay for the demonstration vs. viewers only of the demonstration and mathematically adjust the total headcount according to the percentages.
Steam Engine- the demonstration will be held on Saturday during the tractor parade exhibition. Our normal attendance for such the typical tractor exhibition runs in the 200-300 person range. With the steam engine it would be logical to expect even more spectators to take advantage of the rare opportunity to see an operating steam engine.
Blacksmithing/tinsmithing- We intend to have a volunteer to take attendance on every 1/2 hour (for the first 2 hours each day) to count the people in the bleachers watching the event.
