Collection Inventory - Phase 1
Gammelgården Museum staff and contract workers established an account in a collections management system, purchased equipment, and documented 571 artifacts by uploading images and information. This number exceeded the original short-term goal of 397 artifacts. Most of the work took place after the museum season ended, allowing staff to utilize all available space for the project. Staff also created new categories and clarified distinctions between artifact types, improving organization and record-keeping for items on loan.
This project resulted in a thorough inventory of artifacts on the first and second floors of the 'Welcome House' and some items from the basement. The collections management system now supports staff in tracking artifact condition, planning for storage and conservation, and preparing for future funding requests. Public access to the collection has increased through online records, and the museum is better positioned to offer organized exhibits and educational programs. The next phase will focus on cataloging items in storage and in the museum’s historic buildings.
