Project Overview

This project will provide support to the MPCA's Chloride Reduction Program that offers training, resources, assistance, and tools to organizations and communities in reducing salt use and protecting water resources.

Appropriation Language

The appropriation in Laws 2019, First Special Session chapter 4, article 2, section 2, subdivision 8, paragraph (c), Sauk River Dam Removal and Rock Rapids Replacement, in the amount of $2,768,000, no longer needed for its original purpose is transferred as follows: (4) $500,000 is transferred to the commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency for activities, training, and grants that reduce chloride pollution. Of this amount, $250,000 is for grants for upgrading, optimizing, or replacing water softener units. Priority for grants must be given to facilities needing improvements to comply with chloride water quality standards; (d) Transfers and Availability The transfers under this subdivision are effective June 30, 2021, and the transferred amounts are available until June 30, 2023.
