Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

James Sewell Ballet will present new choreography. We hope to increase interest in modern ballet so that we may continue to bring modern dance companies to the community. The project will be evaluated through surveys in programs. Questions will determine if perceptions about modern ballet change after audience members experience it, and if they might attend another modern ballet performance. 2: More people will be moved, surprised, and entertained; more new people will attend; and excitement about our performances will reinforce our position in the community. Audience surveys of all four events will determine if we met or exceeded expectations, if people were moved and excited, and if we drew new people. We will also learn if perceptions held by people about an art form change as a result of a particular performance.

Measurable Outcome(s)

James Sewell Ballet created and presented its new choreography based on Dante's literary work The Inferno. The outcome was achieved as planned. The premiere of this work in Hansen Theatre at MSUM was sold-out. We do see audiences for contemporary ballet increasing in this community. Audience surveys confirmed again that people here are interested in modern ballet, which makes it possible to continue presenting it. 2: This was the largest audience we've had for ballet, which is the outcome we strived for. This tells us that we can confidently bring dance, and even modern dance, to the community and know that we are meeting the needs of local audiences and providing opportunities for touring dance companies.
