ACHF Arts Education
8: "Regional residents learn new arts skills and techniques." Through participating in Children's Theatre, our goal is to give all kids the opportunity to try something new, the chance to meet new friends with similar interests, the confidence to perform in front of others while in a small group of their peers, and social interaction and the feeling of being a part of something. I will meet with the kids as they are gearing up for performances and have individual conversations with them. What did they like? What did they learn? What was a challenge for them? How did they overcome it? And, from there let the conversation lead to more follow up questions. I will also chat with parents as they come in for the performances and see what kind of impact the week had on their child(ren).
We conducted a short survey of the kids that participated. Almost all children said the experience allowed them to try something they had never done before and to feel like they belonged. They were happy with the roles they were able to play, said they had fun, and wanted to do theater again in the future. Some comments included: "I like to spend time with my friends doing something different and dancing to the songs!" "I like to test my skills to see if I can become a better actor and singer. I look forward to it each summer!" "There were lots of games she played to develop our creativity and acting skills."
