Our immediate goal is to re-hone our organizational vision, develop a profile for potential board members and create a strategy for recruiting new board members. The first step is a discovery phase. With Propel's facilitation we would invite the community together for 2-3 sessions to collect information about what they think the community's needs are. This includes group conversations and sharing stories. We would record sessions either via zoom (if virtual) or record with a video camera at the meeting locations. With this information we can move into a visioning phase which will help us think about our new direction. From there we can search for people who we think may be a good fit as an NLAA board member. If successful, at the end of this process we will have built a path to growing our board of directors back up to twelve members, developed clear messaging of our vision and purpose within the community and have an outreach plan to communicate that vision and purpose to our constituents.
In the discovery phase, it became clear that engaging future board members relies on answering additional questions and defining a new way forward. The second step of the process was initially planned to be a broad community engagement session, but due to pandemic related considerations, a smaller group of stakeholders was invited to participate in a virtual conversation to explore these issues more deeply. Questions came up regarding who our key audience is, addressing a lack of space in New London and partnering with others as a solution. Next we had hoped to move into a visioning phase. Instead we need to take a step back and decide how we want to move forward structurally and strategically relative to the other arts non-profit organization in New London.
