ACHF Arts Education
I am trying to increase access to the arts for students in these rural areas. I want to increase their knowledge of the arts and get materials into their hands with which they can create art. I will increase access to the arts for the camp participants (60-80 students) as well as their family, friends and members of their communities (possibly hundreds of people) by sharing my knowledge of some of our modern environmentally aware artists and then sharing the student artwork with the whole community. I will provide knowledge of art materials that are free so that students are not burdened by cost. Students will be able to continue creating art long after our project is complete because of this newly-gained knowledge. I will consider interest in each camp a success if I have between 12 and 20 students. I will observe, along with the help of my artist assistant, each student as they are creating their works of art during each camp. I will consider each completed project as a success. I will do an email survey of the students' parents after camp is over and again at the end of summer. I will consider a success if parents observe an increase in art knowledge and creativity.
Yes, I believe I achieved my goals. The children and I created a wide variety of art projects (as well as toys and games decorated with their own art) from natural and recyclable materials and even some land art. The students were made aware of environmental awareness artists, so they were able to see that "real" artists use these materials to create art. They were shown how to use free and inexpensive materials to create art and thanks to the grant, were able to take a bag of supplies home with them to continue creating art.
