ACHF Arts Education
Our overall goal is to provide a unique, powerful artistic offering for students and community members. The project would consist of two main activities to help us meet this goal: 1. Guest photographer Wing Young Huie will conduct the ?Chalk Talk? masterclass in the fall of 2020 for 20-25 Art and Photography students from local colleges. This activity is partially funded by the DSACF. 2. About 200 community members?including students, community members, and other engaged individuals?will attend an exhibit at the completion of Huie's residency consisting of his work alongside student work produced during the masterclass. In the long term, this residency will continue increasing access to, and interest in, making art to a wider range of our community as a means of enriching and empowering individuals' experiences and honoring their stories. The project will be evaluated based on attendance and response to the residency. Success will be measured in part by participant numbers. Artistic success will be based on the responses of attendees at the exhibition and the quality of work produced by the students. We will provide an evaluative survey at both the masterclass and exhibition to monitor participant feedback more formally. Results of evaluations will determine the feasibility of undertaking future projects of a similar nature.
The project consisted of two main activities to help us meet our goal. 1. Guest photographer Wing Young Huie conducted a ?Chalk Talk? masterclass in October of 2021. Twenty-five Art and Photography students from local colleges (St. Scholastica, UMD, and UWS) attended. 2. About 200 community members?including students, community members, and other engaged individuals? attended an exhibit at the completion of Huie's residency consisting of his work alongside student work produced during the masterclass. Huie spent time talking with students and community members at an opening reception, and the work remained installed until the end of October.
