Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Northern Clay Center will address the increase in the 55+ population through art programs for senior populations, for whom artist-led programs are not available due to finances, location, and other barriers. Northern Clay Center solicits both qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants, teaching artists and senior living/site staff. 2: By the end of the granting period (February 28, 2014), we hope to have added 35 additional programs for target populations, reaching 435 new participants of the target population. We track the number of participants in our programs at each location with help from our teaching artists and the on-site staff.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Northern Clay Center addressed the importance of providing high quality life-long creative learning opportunities for the expanding 55+ population through arts programing for senior populations for whom artist-led sessions are not available due to finances, schedules, mobility, and location. Working closely with our gate keepers and teaching artists, Northern Clay Center developed educational programing that used clay as a tool for instruction, creativity, and hands-on learning experiences while being mindful of the physical, intellectual, and logistical considerations of our partners and their clients. Participants gained knowledge/appreciation within the making process, built self-esteem, gained confidence, increased positive interactions with staff/volunteers, and through individual and group projects, stronger communities were formed at the sites as well. Throughout each partnership, Northern Clay Center solicited both qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants, teaching artists and senor living/site staff. 2: Northern Clay Center engaged 714 Minnesotans through 43 events, ranging from staff/volunteer training sessions and one-time specialized workshops, to intergenerational programing and multi-week partnerships. To increase accessibility and interest, our programming was formatted to meet the needs of each site and population. This a la carte approach increased participation and overall success within the events. Whenever possible, partnering organizations brought interested clients to Northern Clay Center for a demonstration by a Northern Clay Center studio artist and a free tour of our facilities, which include exhibition spaces, sales gallery, artist studios, firing facilities, and educational classrooms. Participants gained knowledge and understanding of the making process through the Northern Clay Center sessions and their tour (as applicable). As a result, individuals' interest in art programing grew and people were more likely to engage in future programing.
