Minnesota Center for Book Arts expands the number of audiences throughout the state who are engaged in the book arts of papermaking, bookbinding, printmaking, typography, and graphic design. Minnesota Center for Book Arts will collect audience statistics, how many students and general public members participate in the workshops and community open houses as a part of Minnesota Center for Book Arts on the Road. 2: Avocational and professional artists and lifelong learners in greater Minnesota learn new skills and concepts through introductory and advanced book arts workshops. Minnesota Center for Book Arts will conduct a pre-and-post workshop evaluation survey identifying knowledge gained and skills acquired. Minnesota Center for Book Arts addresses the access barrier of cost by offering workshops at a greatly reduced fee.
Minnesota Center for Book Arts engaged more Minnesotans in arts learning by partnering with arts organizations in Bemidji, St. Peter and Northfield. Organizations selected from a menu of ten workshops exploring structures and techniques, adaptable to varying levels of experience. Minnesota Center for Book Arts designed a custom residency suited to local interests and facilities, supplemented by Minnesota Center for Book Arts mobile studio equipment. Lifelong learners acquired skills and knowledge of the book arts, enriching their artistic expression. Minnesota Center for Book Arts free all-ages program held in conjunction with an established local event drew strong attendance: 225 Minnesotans participated in St. Peter, 550 in Northfield and 5,000 in Bemidji. Participants in the intensive weekend workshops that followed numbered 14 in Bemidji, 27 in St. Peter and 50 in Northfield. Outcomes were measured from student evaluations and ongoing interestas in Northfield, where Minnesota Center for Book Arts opened an exhibition of book art with related programs including a talk by Minnesota Center for Book Arts Executive Director. 2: Minnesota Center for Book Arts residencies removed barriers of cost, transportation and access to unique learning experiences for lifelong learners in Greater Minnesota. Minnesota Center for Book Arts and each partner designed a free all-ages community program to generate interest. Low-cost intensive weekend workshops then developed creative expression for beginning and experienced learners. Student evaluations indicate Minnesota Center for Book Arts success at removing barriers to participation. One learner noted, I always wanted to sign up for an Minnesota Center for Book Arts class but it was always too expensive and too far away. After each residency Minnesota Center for Book Arts provided additional book art resources to art centers, libraries and other interested organizations so that local interest could be sustained and developed. Minnesota Center for Book Arts sought for each participant to leave inspired from handling book art and from developing their creative process by applying specific techniques to complete present and future projects. As one student exclaimed, Got to do a lot of work! Came home with lots of art!
