1. We were able to run two weekly classes for 16 consecutive weeks at the Northern Clay Center and Highpoint Center for Printmaking. Ten of our eighteen participants participated throughout the period. The other eight joined later or had attendance issues. This had been our original goal – to give veterans the opportunity to develop skills beyond a beginner’s level through high quality long-term classes. 2. Our evaluation tools are managed by personal assessments by the teachers and Executive Director. We talk with individuals and learn of their particular circumstances, and then we try to tailor an opportunity for them. Our list of prospective participants grew considerably, but we still have to help them make that transition to registration. The most common answer we receive is the particular class “doesn’t work for me at this time, but please keep me on the list for next time.” 2: 1. Following survey data gathered over Spring 2012, in response to poor attendance in our previous project, we divided the 48 hour long classes into smaller classes with specific projects directly relating to military service. Instead of four classes we would now offer 28 classes. It seemed to be a way to make us more relevant to the returning soldiers. More people could begin to understand what the arts had to offer. Truthfully, it was an easier way to engage veterans in the initial conversation and make connections. 2. This evaluation has been based on the number of prospective participants, which has grown this past year from approximately 40 to 100 people. (An additional 60 people have participated in at least one class.) Each has been personally engaged in conversation by the Executive Director to discern their interests. We’ve also received a higher number of inquiries from counselors to discuss our programs.
