Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Arts learning opportunities are more accessible to Minnesota because barriers to participation have been identified and mitigated. More Minnesotans are engaged in arts learning opportunities.

Measurable Outcome(s)

1. All Southside Family Charter School students participated in an on-going residency with a teaching artist from the Givens Foundation for African-American literature. This outcome was evaluated with surveys conducted by the Givens Foundation for African-American Literature and interviews and discussion with teachers, staff, and artists. 2: 1. and 2. Southside Family Charter School developed the following goals to measure engagement in learning activities during the residency and evaluated the effectiveness of meeting those goals via student and teacher surveys: Goal-80% of students report they enjoyed working with the artist. 86% of our students reported in the affirmative. Goal-80% of students report they gained new knowledge of African American literature. 58% reported new knowledge. Of the remaining students who reported no new knowledge or didn't respond, 63% agreed with the statement that they learned important lessons from African American stories" and were able to list specific examples. Goal-75% of students report they have gained new knowledge of literature as an art form. 99% agreed that they "have read African American (black) literature (authors, writers, poems, etc.) in this residency." 73% reported performing their work, 67% reported writing a poem, 66% did storytelling, and 77% wrote a story."
