Both Wendy Savage and Karen Savage-Blue have been artists for many years. Wendy had her first art show at the Tweed Museum in 1978 and she has been a former art educator/professor/instructor and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and elsewhere. (See her attached resume). She also coordinated the Ojibwe Arts Expo for many years. Wendy has curated several art shows at AICHO and has been an art consultant for our Cultural Arts Program throughout our eight year art gallery existence. Karen Savage-Blue is a graduate from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. She holds a Master's Degree in Art Education from Santa Fe, NM. Her public murals have been depicted at numerous local schools and Fond du Lac reservation buildings. She has taught at the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School and currently at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Art Department. Both artists have consistently exhibited their work locally, nationally and internationally. We will provide participants with evaluation cards to evaluate their understanding of what they learned from the art lecture and hands-on applique beading activity. Evaluation questions will include: Did you learn any history that you didn't know before - Did you learn something new about Anishinaabe culture - Have you ever designed a beadwork project before - Have you heard American Indian Winter storytelling stories before - What audio recorded Winter Storytelling stories stood out for you during the hands-on activity, and more. Photographs will be taken of the process of workshop participants in their work of creating their beaded applique art piece. Feedback from the participants during the workshop will be encouraged, shared and documented.
