ACHF Arts Access
Upstream Arts will conduct programs at Merrick’s Vadnais Heights location. Each program will be nine weeks long (1-hour, weekly sessions) and will provide artistic programming for 15 adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities and their 4 support staff. Surveys of participants and their support staff members will show that 95% of respondents believe they had an opportunity to "be heard" artistically. To evaluate the programs, we will measure the impact on arts learning and participation as well as on social and communication skills, such as focus, teamwork, and self-expression. We also believe engagement of the clients in the arts will lead to a decrease in maladaptive behaviors. Merrick staff will fill out a survey with/for each participant in the programs. We will use the data to show the impact on individual participants, and to strengthen and further the programs and the relationship between Upstream Arts and Merrick, and to demonstrate the benefits of the arts for individuals of all abilities.
30 Merrick clients participated in the program, alongside their four Direct Support Professionals, and three artists. 60% of the participants experienced this multi-disciplinary art program for the first time. 100% of the participants indicated their interest in artistic/musical activities was enhanced and that they would like to participate again.
