Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

As a result of this program, young orchestra students will experience an increased understanding of what it is like to play in a full orchestra through instruction from professional youth orchestra conductors in a clinic setting and then rehearsing and performing side-by-side with BSO musicians at a BSO concert. The students and their parents will also increase their knowledge of what developing and participating in a youth orchestra involves during a forum with the youth orchestra conductors. Evaluation methods include journaling the ideas and concerns participating students and parents share and the suggestions the youth orchestra conductors present about starting a youth orchestra during a forum held after the side-by-side rehearsal students will have with the BSO to begin assessing the potential of starting a youth orchestra. We will also survey participating students and their parents after the concert to measure their gained knowledge and interest in developing a youth orchestra.
