Under the guidance of a mentor, young people will increase artistic skills in a specific medium, including presentation skills such as portfolio creation, photographing their work, producing an artist statement and professional looking resume. The mentee will also develop process skills, set goals and develop individual creative discipline; as creating art has very little structure and is a self motivating process. The Mentee can develop confidence and self esteem by working with a successful and established artist. The role of the artist mentor is to be supportive and encouraging, while allowing for sharing critical feedback on artistic methods and processes. This program will culminate in a showcase of work to be held at Loon Country Art Gallery. Evaluation methods will include paper surveys, interviews, and anecdotal evidence gathered during and post activity of both the mentor and the mentee. There will be visual documentation via images, video, social media as well as journaling by the mentee and mentor during the program. A final public written statement by the mentee and the mentor will serve as a final report and a feedback tool for future mentorship relationships. This statement will occur within a year of the beginning grant date. Specific questions mentioned previously lean towards specific outcomes as well as tools to improve the mentor process.
