Establish relationships with two social service organizations that serve Spanish-speaking Latino and non-Latino communities and engage their clientele in a series of community workshops and events. Contact social services organizations serving Spanish-Speaking communities and offer the opportunity for clients to participate. Clients from 2 organizations will participate in this programming either by attending a performance or a community workshop. We will solicit input regarding impact using post-event surveys. 2: Overcome barriers to participation for clients in two social service organizations and ten schools. Discuss barriers for participants. Offer performances/workshops in fully accessible venues. Offer ASL-interpretation. Offer transportation assistance and subsidized/free tickets for performances and matinees. Provide child care at community centers.
We provided complimentary tickets to groups attending events at the Neighborhood House (ELL class and GED Class), Centro, and the Jane Addams School for Democracy. The students in the GED class at the Neighborhood House studied the poetry of Lorca in preparation for attending the performance. Each of these organizations provides social services to traditionally underserved populations. 2: We achieved a significant new level of accessibility with this production by providing open captioning of the performance in English at two performances and in Spanish at two performances. This achievement increased accessibility both for the deaf and hearing impaired communities as well as for individuals who speak Spanish as their first language. All activities were held in fully accessible venues. Transportation and complimentary or subsidized tickets were provided for students in attendance.
