Arts Access
ACHF Arts Access
Individuals will engage in more arts activities in their own neighborhoods. Attendance records, pre and post surveys from residents, and pre and post observation data from artists will indicate whether barriers have been mitigated.
Through participant surveys, discussions at events, and artist project reports, we learned that individuals established connections with new people (through the act of artistic co-creation) that previously did not exist. We heard from many residents that through participating in Art Blocks, they learned about other artists living on their blocks. The project also served as an unofficial artist census for the four target neighborhoods. We heard over and over again that people who had known each other casually for 5-10 years discovered that their neighbor was a practicing artist, or had an artistic skill set that was previously unknown. Access barriers were overcome because people participated where they live, the art came to them. For a significant number of people, especially families with young children, this was the only way they could participate in this arts activity.
