Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Students at Twin Lakes Elementary will be engaged in all steps of the mosaic process, with a professional artist. The outcomes will be increased understanding of the process of mosaic, how it has been used and its potential applications.Students will demonstrate understanding by, creating posters explaining mosaic process. Posters will be on display during Arts Night/dedication ceremony. Also all students will create an “invitation” to the mural dedication. On the invitation students complete a “3-2-1” survey. On the survey students will complete the following statements: 1. Three new art techniques I learned from this workshop are: 2. Two new art vocabulary words I learned and their meaning include: 3. One question I would like to ask the artist is:

Measurable Outcome(s)

Upon completing this residency students should be able to identify mosaics as a form or art, be able to create a mosaic, and define specific mosaic terminology. All outcomes were achieved during Lisa's visit. Our school has 2 mosaic projects completed entirely by our 4th and 5th grade students. The imagery for the mosaics was inspired by a poem written by Twin Lakes Elementary students and Lisa. Throughout the process students reviewed mosaic terms and process. Then as an exit/wrap-up activity students were asked to give feedback to five questions. What did you learn about mosaics? What did you like best about mosaics? What did you learn about yourself? What would make mosaic week better? Is there anything else you want to say or ask? These questions opened up a dialog with each student to share their knowledge and personal artistic journey through the residency. Finally during our school's Arts Night, Lisa attend to describe the process to parents and present a slideshow. During her presentation Lisa had students repeat some key terms.
