Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

I will expand my expertise and repertoire within the orchestral genre by composing, rehearsing, and programming two new works. Gains in expertise in writing for orchestra will be measured by feedback from conductor, musicians, and audience. Expansion of repertoire will be evaluated by my completion of the two proposed new works for orchestra. 2: Nearly 600 Minnesotans will experience the work of a Minnesota composer in the rehearsal and performance of two new, engaging works for orchestra. A headcount of musicians and audience members participating in the community component, and the completion of the two works will be measures of this outcome. Audience engagement will be measured informally by audience response.

Measurable Outcome(s)

I expanded my expertise in composing for orchestra (and treble choir) by creating and rehearsing two new works. I am evaluating my achievement of this goal based upon the amount of quality time during which I was able to interact and learn from the conductors and musicians while preparing the music, in addition to the positive feedback I received from them and from the audience members. 2: This outcome was surpassed in that the combined totals of the audience was larger than projected. Adding the musicians and combined audiences, the total number of Minnesotans who experienced the music was over 900. From the enthusiastic applause and numerous positive interactions with musicians and audience members, I was able to evaluate how much they enjoyed preparing or listening to my music.
