The immediate outcome of engaging in this activity is receiving manuscript feedback by Jude Nutter that I could use to focus attention on craft elements in my collection that need improvement. Specific areas or goals that I hope are addressed by Jude's critique include: overall sequence of my collection and whether the order of my poems is cohesive; where there are holes in my manuscript or areas that need more development; and more intensive review of newer poems in my collection that haven't been formally work-shopped. I hope to gain some new perspectives from Jude Nutter's read that would help me get a better sense of how the collection holds up as a whole entity to a first time reader. Receiving feedback on my manuscript does not equate to having a readily publishable manuscript. Time and energy on my behalf will be needed to bring the goal of strengthening my manuscript with Jude's edits to fruition. Although what I ultimately see as success for this project is having this manuscript published by a reputable press, a more immediate source of success would be gaining a clearer vision of what the final draft of my manuscript could look like with purposeful revision.
I did achieve the goal of receiving feedback from Jude Nutter on my poetry manuscript. The specific and thoughtful feedback that Jude provided will help guide me as I complete the final edits of my manuscript before sending it out to find a publisher. She focused a great deal of her feedback on sequencing, or the order of the poems in the collection, and what shifts could be made to make my manuscript stronger.
