Speaking to technology improvements, my goals are to make a drastic jump in the audio quality of my work, beginning with Twin Portals. I want to be a source of information and motivation for others who want to try something new. I want to grow my abilities in editing a multi-track podcast, and I want to be able to use that knowledge and experience to help others with similar dreams. Regarding Twin Portals, I want to be surrounded by the talented people who make up the show. I want to work with them to create an interesting story worth listening to. I want to expand the size of our group by bringing in guest players who will provide their own abilities and perspectives. I want to continue to engage other artists who are inspired to create art and music and stories because of what we’re doing. Finally, I want to continue to bring an audience of D and D fans together at our live shows so that they can meet and enjoy and plan adventures of their own. For myself, I will grade my work a success if I’ve achieved a substantial improvement in sound quality. This will be due both to the upgraded equipment, as well as learning new techniques to expand my abilities in the areas of setup, sound balance, and editing. Additionally, I want to be a source of information for others interested in starting their own podcast. I want to be able to share knowledge of hosting and editing and sound design so others can share their passions with an audience they grow through their own hard work. I’ll consider Twin Portals a success if we’re still recording a year from now, on at least a monthly basis, with a rotating cast of players. It’s an incredibly fun project for all involved, and there are many others who want to contribute their talents to the show. I want to continue building on our audience of subscribed podcast listeners. And, I want to fill up the Teatro Zuccone with D and D fans who are eager to watch our live shows. Finally, since it’s my main focus, I want Twin Portals to be a podcast that sounds much closer to the studio produced D and D stories I listen to. As a small crew of passionate people with full time jobs, we likely won’t be able to perfectly replicate what we hear from the professionals. But, we can definitely be closer to their finished product, and for a fraction of the equipment cost.
The use of dedicated Shure SM58 microphones put Twin Portals on an entirely different level, as far as audio quality is concerned. Individuals can have their volumes increased and decreased individually and simultaneously, unlike with a single area mic. Researching equipment and anticipating current and future technological needs made me a better source of information for others seeking my advice. My abilities as a podcast producer continue to improve. Every recording I do and every edit I do in post production has me considering, is there a better way? I am still researching, brainstorming, and collaborating to find ways to make the audio sound better with less effort required. Through Twin Portals, I continue to get to work with fantastic artists of many disciplines. I have had two guest performers on since my application was submitted. I've worked with a local production company, Sound Central, for further equipment needs and advice/planning for the future.
