I have never made a table before. But I feel like the previous eight years of learning to do wood working has set me up for potential success. As a part time wood worker being able to add to my list of things that I make can potentially earn me more money in the arts. This project could be the snowflake that starts the avalanche. My conception of the work is: a walnut table with wooden legs tied together with heavy duty metal used sparingly so the metal does not take away from the beauty of the wood. There are many measures of success for this project. Starting at the most basic. Wood working can be very dangerous, so not getting hurt is tops on the list. The table needs to be functional and sturdy. It should be able to hold books and an occasional person sitting on it. The walnut needs to be sanded down to about 1000 grit sand paper to really make use of the pattern and the grain that is in walnut. I will also be getting feed back during the process from both family and friends. The table needs to sit flat on the floor which may seem obvious but is a detail that can't be taken for granted. The top of the table needs to sit level. There can't be any week or loose joints but also respecting the fact the wood continues to move with humidity and air temperature. The final product will be pleasing to the eye and have functionality.
