The overall goal of this project is to use locally grown and/or harvested dye plants and locally sourced natural fibers to create five pieces of fiber art to be displayed in the 2025 Ely Art Walk. The art walk takes place the entire month of February. Outcome 1: By January 31, 2025 I will have created 5 pieces of fiber art to be exhibited in the local art walk. Each piece will be created using a natural dye from a local dye plant, a repurposed piece of fiber/fabric or fiber, and may include found other found objects from the environment. Objective 2: The artist statement used in the February Art Walk exhibit will include information on the local dyes and the repurposed fibers/fabrics used and how this work serves to help reduce the material footprint. My success will be measured when I exhibit five pieces of fiber art using the methods described above. An added bonus would be to be a featured speaker at the Ely Tuesday Group, Ely Folk School, or Ely Library (or an art group) explaining my fiber art practice.
