I hope to produce at least 2 zines that combine poetry, drawing/water color painting/plant based textiles, and herbalism research to create resources for LGBTQIA2S+ health and wellness. One zine will be on herbal hormone options and another on the energetic power of bioregional flowers. If there is additional time/funding for this project left I may explore third zine option as well that would be about gender affirming surgery support with herbs. One of the main outcomes I hope for is to create an accessible in-road/tool for herbalism and art to connect rural LGBTQIA2S+ people to the healing nature of plants through using art paired with herbal knowledge. I truly believe that having knowledge of the plants that surround us and how they are here to support and protect us, creates a sense of safety and belonging that is so needed for LGBTQIA2S+ people. For me this will be successful if I am able to produce at least 2 zines with deep herbal knowledge for LGBTQIA2S+ people and share them in a community event center on queer and trans wellness and liberation. For me, success is using art to connect LGBTQiA2S+ people in Northern Minnesota to plant based healing and demystify herbalism and all of the gatekeeping that can come with it as queer and trans people try to take charge of their own health journeys. At the core of the success of this project is using art to help LGBTQIA2S+ people find an herbal pathway for bodily autonomy.
