Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The goal of this project is to bring paid musicians into the orchestra who play instruments needed to achieve well-balanced string sections and a full complement of wind instruments. These are the short-term measurable outcomes: 1. The orchestra will perform with well-balanced string sections and a full complement of wind instruments. 2. MSO musicians will feel that they are presenting professional, high quality performances for audiences. 3. Audience members will benefit from our professional repertoire for the 2019-2020 season. Longer-range outcomes for this project include a thriving arts scene on the Iron Range, greater interest in the study of music in our schools, growing audiences for orchestra concerts, and growing financial support for the MSO. Outcomes one and 2: MSO will conduct a survey of musicians following the final concert. The survey will ask about the difficulty of the music, the adequacy of rehearsal time, and the benefit of including paid musicians in the performances. The outcome will be met if 65% or more of the musicians report that they believe they have provided professional, high quality performances for MSO audiences. Outcome 3: MSO will conduct a survey of audience members at each concert, asking for their feedback concerning the quality of the performance, and receiving their input about how to make the experience more enjoyable. Outcome 3: MSO will track attendance at each concert. The third outcome will be met if attendance meets or exceeds the 2018-19 average attendance.

Measurable Outcome(s)

These were the measurable outcomes for the project: ? The orchestra will perform with well-balanced string sections and a full complement of wind instruments. ? MSO musicians will feel that they are presenting professional, high quality performances for audiences. ? Audience members will benefit from our professional repertoire for the 2019-2020 season. The first artistic goal was met for the February, 2020, concert but not for the strings-only concerts. The second goal was not measured. Because of the abrupt end to the 2019-2020 season, MSO did not do a year-end survey of musicians. Attendance for the February concert was below prior year averages for both performances. MSO's audience survey following the February concerts received enthusiastic positive responses, showing us that the third goal was at least partially met. The audience for the online concerts has been similar to that of live performances.
