The Goal (s): Through this production, GMP will strengthen the student's performance ability, expand participants' knowledge of and appreciation for each culture represented and increase the number of opportunities for the greater Cook County area to thrive through strengthened community awareness and support. Measurable Outcomes: Student Performance Ability: advance learning in vocal projection, diction, comprehension of story structure, physicality of character and ensemble participation. Cultural Awareness: awareness of cultural ritual and moirees (including clothing), communication, storytelling structure. Community: number of new participants, geographical radius of community member involvement, number of attendees of school shows and public performances. Student performance Ability: the director will utilize analytic rubrics for vocal projection/diction/ensemble work converted into easily comprehensible questions for the students to rate their ability at the beginning, mid-rehearsal and final performance. These assessments will be built into the rehearsal process. Understanding of story structure and physicality will be measured utilizing a simple checklist and will be embedded into rehearsal. Cultural Awareness: students will take a pre and post-survey on the cultural aspects of the play to measure growth in awareness and knowledge. Community Increase: Student's information is amassed in a comprehensive database. In addition, GMP is in the process of identifying the best app to track volunteer hours which will collect geographic statistics as well. School show attendance are recorded in aggregate in the student participation database; show attendance reports are generated from the box office sales system, Tix.com.
Though the project changed throughout, the goal of providing an opportunity for students to strengthen their performance ability and expand the participants knowledge and appreciation of the cultures represented was accomplished and expanded due to the difficulties presented through production. The cast and crew stepped up and worked harder to achieve a wonderful production. Cast and crew came in to volunteer on production elements on weekends and after school, groups worked individually and in small groups in all areas of the theater when not engaged on stage during rehearsal. Cast helped colleagues who had a more difficult time memorizing lines. High School students joined as assistant directors to help mentor the young actors and helped backstage during production. The students learned about cultures through varied theater styles, music and costuming. There were many new actors and new crew members.
