"Meadow Adventures" broadens the scope of our arts programming by offering a participatory aspect to the production process. It is our desire to lay the groundwork for ongoing performance art opportunities at PWELC led by our local arts community. By bringing local community members together as contributing artists, actors and participants of all ages and levels, newcomers to theater, set design, masks and puppet making can experience art-making for the first time as a fun practice in learning to live well with self, others, and the environment. Along with gaining knowledge about plants and insects, audience and participants' views will expand to see PWELC not only as a place to learn together but also a place where we create together. As part of one of our highest attended events, this performance will have the best chance for larger participation, audience exposure and broader feedback. After the play we will distribute and collect paper surveys in a comment box and encourage participants to leave their impressions and feedback. We will also distribute online surveys to similarly collect feedback from participants in the play. We will ask what they learned, whether they had experienced something new, and what suggestions they may have for improving the event. The biggest sign of success will be comments asking for a repeat experience, suggestions for additional plays or questions about how to participate.
This was an amazing opportunity for the young, amateur actors. Many had very little acting experience and none had puppetry experience. They were able to work with and learn from professional puppeteers. Amazing growth was seen, from the first rehearsals,
