ACHF Arts Access
With the success of recent local large scale productions, many parents in and around the community have expressed interest in getting their children involved in community theater. This grant would help us to meet that demand. The impact of a production with this many children will be large and far reaching. A production of this size with children included would trigger large amounts of support from both the city and parents. Also, the introduction of our community theatre organization to a new group of adults and children will benefit future productions. We will measure the impact of this show by looking at the final numbers for attendance. Our production in the fall of 2021 broke attendance records for The Green Earth Players, making it an overwhelming success thanks to the support of SMAC. We are looking to build upon that success and develop an appreciation of theater in the youth of the community.
One of our expected impacts / outcomes was that our diverse audience would experience increased access to performance arts. Bringing the arts to a venue that is naturally diverse in cultures, geography, products, and language provided a unique opportunity. Through their involvement in the market people are put into a situation which naturally exposes them to new experiences, including unique, in-person performances. The mix of performers, producers and consumers creates an atmosphere of learning: building both appreciation and trust. Another goal was to foster a proximity for people to interact. True trust, friendships, and knowledge are developed through in-person opportunities to interact with others. Performances at the Market and the market experience itself provide weekly opportunities to mingle, converse, educate and support people from all walks of life. Success is evident by the visible interactions and ongoing support which is witnessed each week. Smiles, dancing, translating, sharing, storytelling, recipe sharing, etc. We measured impact by weekly in-person surveys of the market consumers and an annual survey of the market producers.
