American Indian Ojibwe Elders connecting with the youth with an eagerness to learn. An increase in the American Indian Ojibwe community involmnet with language and cultural events.
Community members and youth want to better understand the Ojibwe culture. A huge impact is the willingness of the young people to want to learn the language, culture and to be a part of these events. The elders sharing their stories of the culture and language is honored and greatly received. The students are still given an Ojibwe word of the day to be able to pronounce and know the meaning of. A very important outcome was the positive reception and feedback from the American Indian clients of the Recovery Treatment program. They participated in the Ojibwe language table and immersion camp. Their response was what they are taking with them to share with their family members and want to continue to listen and learn more about the culture. An elder expressed, "you cannot learn the language if you do not understand the culture." An estimated 400 people were directly served due to funding for this program.
