ArtStart Youth Summer programs
Youth will learn art techniques and processes in hands-on classes from professional instructors.
Birdfeeders: Kids enjoyed creating their own decorated bird feeders using a paper cardboard tube decorated with markers & mylar paper shapes they cut out. Cut two holes in top of tube and strung a thin wire thru so it can hang on a tree branch. Could add beads to the wire. Rube Goldberg Marble Machine: Kids used recycled materials to build contraptions for marbles to traverse. Ella did a fine job of guiding the kids in building their machines. I like how ArtStart typically starts their classes with a mini-lesson on either the topic, style, or history, or artist being covered. For the Build Small class, Cindy asked me to pull books with cities, buildings, architecture, etc. for the presenter to use. The kids had a grand old time gluing odds and ends to the bases to make their own cities. Solar prints: took photo paper and objects outside to make prints, decorated with frames, shells, sticks, etc. for beautiful products. They loved watching the sun make images appear and created some really cool designs.
