Acquire Microfilm Scanner & Computer

Our aim for this project was to improve access to our research resources and give staff and volunteers better tools to complete research for visitors, exhibits, and programs. The installation of the new ST ViewScan III microfilm scanner achieved these goals for us. We now offer access to our microfilmed newspapers using the scanner. Visitors, staff, and volunteers can now save newspaper records electronically and print them on our printers and copiers with better clarity. As an example, within a week of receiving the new microfilm scanner, we fulfilled a research request with the new scanner and were able to e-mail a clear and readable PDF copy of an obituary to the researcher because of this project. Moreover, the project allows us to start indexing newspapers to make more local history more readily available to the public.
