Project Overview

The project has the goal of providing additional opportunities for students interested in the Ojibwe language to be able to pursue and be exposed to more Ojibwe language and culture and to become a fluent speaker. This would be accomplished with internship during that include tutoring, leading study groups, and being teachers aides for language instructors, creating public awareness of the Ojbiwe language through radio, print, the Leech Lake Tribal College website, signage in public buildings and other opportunities that are available for encouraging language preservation. The internship program will give students the opportunity to spend more time with language instructors to develop projects that both increase their ability to speak the language and increase community awareness and interest in the Ojibwe language. Four internships per academic year will be offered for Intermediate Ojibwe language students.
