Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

I will achieve a greater understanding of compositional styling in classic Cuban music and expand my work as a composer with dynamic new repertoire. This proposal envisions studying, re-notating, and performing rarely heard Cuban repertoire previously acquired in 2010. I will also create 8 new works. I will be evaluated according to what degree I succeed in achieving these goals. 2: This project will present a series of open rehearsals that will provide unique access to Minnesotans to a professional composer creating new work. This project envisions 6 open rehearsals. How well those open rehearsals are run by the composer, and then received by the public, will determine if the project achieved its desired outcome.

Measurable Outcome(s)

This project involved transcribing and notating large amounts of existing Cuban repertoire and later creating my own arrangements influenced by this work. These actions were accomplished during my program of activities and hugely expanded by artistic abilities as a composer and arranger. 2: Through this project professional musicians based in Minnesota gained more work while at the same time a broad audience of Minnesotan were engaged including existing fans of the music, new fans, and youth studying music and attending Ramsey Middle School in Minneapolis.
