Arts Access
ACHF Arts Access
Intermedia Arts will build relationships with 17 youth and family service organizations in order to serve 1500 more members of underserved communities. Intermedia Arts will track the growth in participation by members of the partner organizations, and an outside evaluator will survey the staff of the organizations in order to assess their opinions of the efficacy of the relationship-building efforts. 2: Intermedia Arts will eliminate cost, transportation, and information-access barriers in order to increase access for underserved youth and families. Intermedia Arts will track the utilization of the access initiatives by members of the target communities and survey participants to determine the extent to which the initiatives reduced barriers and to measure the efficacy of these strategies.
Intermedia Arts built deeper relationships with seventeen community organizations that work with traditionally underserved populations. This was achieved by the efforts of Youth Programs staff and Nicole Smith, the Community Engagement Coordinator. These organizations were offered tickets and transportation to events at Intermedia Arts and were provided spaces in creative arts experiences and workshops such as Family Art Day and We Are All Related: Spoken Word. Examples of these partner organizations are: Kulture Klub Collaborative, The Brotherhood Inc., and Little Earth United Tribes. These efforts resulted in 1600 more individuals from underserved communities participating and attending youth and family events. These relationships and outreach were evaluated by outside evaluator Karon Shearts (her written report is an attachment). She helped us develop surveys and conducted small focus groups for refection and evaluation. She also did direct observation of program activities. 2: 800 tickets to Catalyst Series performances were distributed to targeted organizations. Partial or full scholarships were awarded to 85 youth to participate in arts workshops and summer arts camps. In order to eliminate transportation as a barrier to participation Intermedia Arts provided charter buses, Metro Transit bus cards, taxi rides, and gas cards to youth and families participating in Arts Access events and programs. During the grant period 25 buses were chartered by Intermedia Arts to bring youth and partner organizations to Arts Access events. These buses allowed 1250 more individuals to participate in events. 250 bus cards, gas cards, and taxi vouches were given out to assist individuals in getting to and from programs and events. In order to evaluate the impact questions about cost and transportation were included on surveys and in focus groups.
