Thirty members of the Latino community of Crookston will create video and photographic works that demonstrate an understanding of the aesthetics and principles of the art form. Completed artwork will be evaluated accordingly to Minnesota State Standards in the Arts, using assessments designed by the project director in compliment with teaching artists. Participants will use arts criticism as a means for self-assessment and growth that will be collected and synthesized. 2: 3,000 Crookston residents will be introduced to public exhibitions and screenings of participant created artwork. Additional exhibits will expand the audience to a total of 5,000. Audience tallies and informal interviews with participating artists and audience members will be collected and reported on.
Thirty-two members of the Latino community of Crookston created video and photographic works that demonstrated an understanding of the aesthetics and principles of the art form. This outcome was achieved by providing facilitated guidance and instruction by 4 professional artists. Participants created digital media that was then presented to the public, engaging the local community in socially relevant dialogues about art, and cultural understanding. More than 50 photographic works and five videos were produced through this process. Works were critiqued, revised and often improved as part of a critical assessment process that used federal and state arts standards as a reference for critique. 2: 6,311 local audience was achieved through this project. An additional 1,790 has been achieved to date through online venues with an expectation of 30,000 to be reached within three years. An additional 3,500 are expected to be reached through touring exhibits by March 2014. These audiences largely represent rural communities and Latino audiences that are largely overlooked when it comes to the arts, thus establishing new interest and engagement in the arts. Audience sizes were determined by tallies collected either by In Progress evaluator, or tallies gathered from community partners. These counts were typically taken from seat counts and daily attendance averages reported.
