Arts in the Schools
ACHF Arts Education
The goal of this program is to increase the quantity and types of arts learning opportunities for youth. Our goals are to introduce students to Eastern culture through art and to help them understand that art has an impact on our culture and each student individually. Artistic Goals: Students will learn to follow established design methods for Yi Xing Teapots. They will also have an understanding of slab construction techniques and ceramic processes with a focus on craftsmanship and design. Students will be assessed on criteria within craftsmanship, design, production, and work habits. Learning Goals: The Paramount workshop will give students an opportunity to work with potters outside the area. It is a unique opportunity for them because they can see how recent art school graduates use their education. Reflection: Students will reflect on the project/assignments/field trip by answering a set of questions on the ceramics exit report. This covers art appreciation components as well as construction. Attachments available upon request: rubric: ceramic teapots, lesson plan, exit report.
All students had some level of success. The objective for our residency was to provide information regarding Japanese art and culture which they relayed back to us in the form of an Exit Report. My Exit Reports ask students to answer 5 questions regarding the assignment they finished. It focuses on Evaluation, Comparisons, and Educated Opinions. We were especially happy to see each student bring his/her own design ideas to the project.
