We learned that our community embraces zany ideas when they are presented in a practical and thoughtful manner. Our past problem was we needed to replace our carpeting and we needed to do more for visual arts. People appreciated that we were creative in solving this problem by coming up with the penny floor concept and also valued that we are doing more for visual arts. The Penny Jars sparked so many conversations and actual penny donations as people remembered that they had a jar full of coins at home. Could they donate them? Of course! Our staff and ushers shared so many tales of people’s positive reactions to the new aesthetic changes in the building.
