Artist Initiative
ACHF Arts Access
Minnesota artists are able to expand or further develop their artistic abilities through varied learning opportunities. Minnesota artists are able to develop business skills needed to support their professional art work. More Minnesotans are able to engage in or with the work of Minnesota artists.
As a Minnesota artist, and working with other Minnesota artists on my crew, this project greatly expanded my knowledge of what it takes to install a large artwork in a public space. I developed my ability to answer questions and talk with people who were on-site during install and de-install. I found new ways to work quickly yet effectively after a number of setbacks during a limited installation time (as dictated by a permit). I evaluated this achievement by speaking with my crew when the project was over, assessing what they had learned through the process. Additionally, I shared my entire process, from conception to construction and installation on my own blog, which is linked on mnartists.org, the Northern Spark website and my personal social media networks. Minnesota artists who have visited/will visit my blog have the opportunity to see my thoughts, building challenges and finished piece and can learn from my process. I can assess web traffic to my blog through Google Analytics. 2: Through this process, I had to work closely with NorthernLights.mn for planning, permissions and implementation of the piece. I also had to find and contact local electricians, equipment rental companies, wholesale suppliers and services. I was able to develop professional relationships with everyone I worked with as well as gain important fiscal skills through fundraising and budgeting. I had to push the limits of my already strong organizational skills and gained skills in managing my crew's time and energy. This was evaluated by assessment of my personal experiences prior to and after the project's completion.
