County Fair Legacy Project
The farming of lumber is a huge part of Minnesota history. In fact the towns of Bemidji, Akeley, and Brainerd, Minnesota have each boasted themselves the birth place of the famous Paul Bunyan. It is our goal to remind community members of this rich Minnesotan tradition of tree falling by having a demonstration of lumberjacks (a free event) at the fair this year. At the end of the lumberjack event there will be time for kids to do hands-on learning and training of how our ancestors worked with wood, not only to build homes but to create a living.
For our retired community members and those who grew up on the music of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline, Eddie Cochran, Bill Haley and The Comets we are partnering up with our local FFA chapter. They are going to have a car show and during that time we will have a band well known in Minnesota to play this era of music for their entertainment. We are expecting this band to bring in not only the older generation, but the younger generation as well, so they can enjoy this music together.
We expect to have around 100 or more people attend this demonstration and will assign a volunteer to take attendance of people who come to the event. We expect a couple hundred people to be around to visit, Although this band will be out in the open on an open stage a volunteer will be assigned to try and keep track of the number of people at the event.
